Gettin' It Right

The Defence Attorney, who was not particularly popular in the judicial circles in the county of this small cosmopolitan town, was cross-examining a local police officer testifying during a felony trial.
-
He asked,. "Officer, did you see my client fleeing the scene?" - The officer replied, ". No sir, but I subsequently observed a person matching the description of the offender running several blocks away.
-
The D A Asked, "Officer, who provided this description? "
The office responded to the court..
-
The D A Then inquired, "A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trust your fellow officers?
The police officer responded, " Yes sir, with my life.
-
"With your life?" said the D A loudly to the courtroom, "Let me ask you this then officer - do you have a locker room in the police station – a room where you change your clothes in preparation for you daily duties?
The officer answered in the affirmative, "Yes sir, we do."
-
The D A continued, "And do you have a locker in that room? "
to which the policeman said, "Yes sir, I do."
-
Continuing the D A asked, "And do you have a lock on your locker? "
"Yes sir." was the reply.
-
"Now why is it, officer," the D A continued,
" if you trust your fellow officers with your life, that you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with those same officers?"
-
The street-wise cop, smiled at the D A, and responded. "Well you see sir, we share the building with a court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room."
-
With that, the courtroom erupted in laughter, and a prompt recess was called. The officer on the stand has been nominated for this year's "Best come-back" line and we think he'll may win.
